Saro: Moment piece

Dela,
Here is my moment piece, I'm posting it on the blog because the print that I gave doesn't look that good, it came out too dark... I'd like to continue with this piece where I will get rid of the line drawing eventually, so that it would stand on its own as a painting without the underline.

Jaime's Ghost Hunter Characters & Moment Piece

Here are my painted Ghost Hunter characters as well as my environment "moment" piece. For the moment piece I wanted to have the Professor hear and see something suspicous up above in their headquarters. I wanted to have him be ready with his ghost catching backpack if any ghostly activities were to happen.

moment piece:

Hey dela,

Thanks for all the input once again. It really helped, and i think i came up with a pretty good piece. If anyone has any suggestions to makke it better, please let me know!

see you guys in a few hours...

color comps, Moment Piece Edit, and speedpaints (ariel)

hey dela,

here are my color comps for my scene along with a new version of the moment piece. I felt there were scale issues with pretty much all the characters when I did it earlier in the week and I got critique that verified that. This one feels a little better to me, but something still feels off, I don't know. I'm sure we'll talk about it in class tommorow, see you there.

Tony's Speed Paints

Tough stuff.

Tomorrow's Class

We will be meeting tomorrow.

You need to turn in your moment piece, please also bring your characters and environments to turn into to me. At the end we will be discussing the next project.

ALSO BRING IN SUPPLIES. Please pass this information on to anyone in the class who might not reciecve it.

The supplies are Not for the Maquette's.

Thanks,
Dela

Hey Dela here is my revised inhouse drawing. I made the revisions that we discussed this last Saturday.

Here are the paintings that I was looking at for a sources of inspiration for my color. I wanted something that gave me a variety of color and values. I didn't see this piece as being really dark and gloomy rather as a place that has a lot of beauty. Death and spirits can be beautiful not necessarily dark and gloomy. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Jens: Rev In House, Color Comps, Speed Paints

Hey Dela,
I revised the In House trying to correct the perspective issues we spoke of. Also I tried to use more overlap to not showcase each prop so definitively. Hopefully this lack of focus can also be better resolved in the lighting of the moment piece. I want to go with the bottom middle color scheme probably with a little more orange and reds, so that it feels victorian. Most of my other pieces are dark and edgy, so hopefully this piece can work with a warm richly colored palette, even though they are ghost catchers and scary would be the first clue. Thanks.

Saro: speed paints

Moment Piece (Ariel)

Hey Dela,

Here's my moment piece. I did a scene where the team is getting ready to go out on a mission and Noemi is giving them her last orders/comments as she loads her book bag. I wanted to keep her the closest to the foreground so she'd be bigger then everyone and seem in charge. I'll be looking through movies for color schemes now and I'll post color comps later. If you have any comments on the moment piece those would be great.

Kelly's Week 3 speedpaintings

Hey Dela! Here are my speedpaintings for this week. I definately found these tougher than the 1 hour ones. I really was trying to focus on getting the the shapes. Hopefully, with further practice with these 20 minute ones I will get improve. Thanks!

moment piece.

Hey Dela,

Here is my drawing of the moment piece. I really wanted to zoom in more on the characters. Any comments as to how to make the composition better or changes to expressions would be great. Should I also do a line drawing of my old environment instead of the maya snap shot?

JP: Interior Comps

Dela,

Here are some comps I did based on different lighting schemes and colors. I wanted to try out a few different ideas for lighting and I like a few of them, but I would love to have your feedback on which ones you think are most successful. Also, in regards to your comments on the foreground elements seeming too large for the ground plane, I was trying to make them seem like they were at the back of the wall on a high dresser or shelf, but if they seem strange then I will work on them to make them feel like an appropriate scale.

Thanks!

Jaime's Speed Paints 3

Here are all three 20 minute speed paints. I have to say that the 20 minute deadline really tested me. It forced me to block in everything quicker. I also have to say that by practicing with 30 minute speed paints on my own also helped in adjusting to the shorter time. I had a lot of fun with them but they were really challenging.

JP: In House Revision and Speed Paints 3

Dela,

Here is the revised inhouse drawing with changes I made based on your suggestion of resolving the vertical tangent with the box in the lower left and framing the image on the lower right to keep the eye in the composition. I should have color comps up very soon as well, and I am going to shoot for another moment piece like you suggested. I also included the 20 minute speedpaints for the week.

Saro:revised in-house and color keys

Dela,
Here is my revised in-house drawing with a quick value study. I also have some color keys that I did for the interior. Which one do you think is working the best? I would appreciate it if you could comment on these pieces before I go with my final painting, thanks a lot Dela.

20 Minute Speed Paints

Time to put the 'speed' in speed paints. You all have been doing great with the speed paints this week give yourself twenty minutes per piece. Here are this weeks speed paints.

Next Class

Hope everyone is enjoying spring break. For those of you who were not at last class, this week the moment piece is due. This takes all the work you've been doing thus far on characters and environment and combines them.

This week we I will also have you turn in your characters and environment pieces, as well as speed paints. We will also be starting the next project.

Jaime's Ghost Hunter Headquarters Designs

Here are my initial ghost hunter headquarters designs along with the latest designs I have been working on. Basically I went with my idea of having the headquarters under the Eiffel Tower. The ghost containment unit would connect and be powered by the Eiffel tower along with some machines. I kept the drawings loose, played with shapes, and built off simple shapes. I am currently working on making revisions from todays feedback. Any further suggestions would be great. Thanks

Janet: Theatre HQ

Hi Dela,

Here's my Theatre Headquarters. I'd like to do another pass on this one over the break and also work on lighting. One of the obstacles I had was balancing detail with clarity while fitting in props and later adding detail to the theatre since Victorian designs are very intricate. Thanks for your feedback.

In-house drawing (Ariel)

hey dela, here's my inhouse drawing. I tried really hard to keep proportions this time, so I did basic shapes for everything before I detailed anything. There's a slight 2 point perspective on it, not too much. I drew this on 11x17 and I really liked drawing on that size except for the fact that it took so long. Next time I will draw a 1.85 to 1 ration box on the page because I realized that after I did the drawing that it's not on wide screen format. Any comments or things you see that could be fixed would be great! See you tommorow in class.

Ideations/Character Revision

Hey Dela, here is the revision I've made to the shaman's face. I tried to simplify and design the face into more distinct shapes that fit together, plus I wanted to make sure she looked young. For the interior, I was thinking of first doing a grand library that would be in his house since he's a smart type of guy, but I did some research and I wanted to push the environment, so I decided to go with a conservatory/green house interior. I love the thought of plants in the interior, plus lots of windows. I wanted to incorporate the blimp they travel in to be a part of their headquarters, which lands through the roof, in which the characters would descend off a platform that was the shape of the eiffel tower. I thought this would subconsciously incorporate a bit of french without being to blatant. I'm planning on adding water to the interior, the characters would have to cross over a stone walkway to get to the otherside. Anyway, I'm gonna get crackin on this, any thoughts would always be great though. Thanks!

Jens: In House

Hey Dela,
Here is my first pass at the In House. I plan on including more wind chimes to hang from above. As a line drawing however it becomes somewhat busy so later if I take this to a finished paint I can silhuette and simplify the information, similiar to the rough value studies I had done. I would really
like to know any aspect that isn't working or unclear. Thanks.

JP: GhstHunter Interior In-House

Hey Dela,

Here is the first pass on my interior. I tried to apply your suggestions on getting some more information in the composition instead of just the ghost engine being the only read. I wanted to put my in-house up in a rough state because this shot is perspective heavy, and I know there is a lot of room for error. I was having a tough time with elipses, so hopefully those aren't looking too wonky.

Thanks!

Jaime's Speed Paints 2

Here are my speed paints for the week. These were very challenging and a lot of fun. They each had there difficult areas. I think working in layers makes it easy and quicker to edit. I kept it to around 3 layers, usually background, middle and foreground. Blocking in the main shapes and then going in to refine was the way I worked. The clouds were tough and so was the last speed paint overall. For the last one I blocked in big shapes/negative shapes and then tried to focus on the face and then went back to continue blocking in his body and background until the hour was up. Time goes by too fast.

Jens Paints and Interior

Dela,
I tried to explore possibilities with the court house as we discussed last time. I felt that the river port ideas I came up with had more potential in pushing the 3D space so I did some value roughs to see how the comps work in widescreen format. I came up with many homemade windchime designs, planning on using many of them in the final in house. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Reeser ~ One InHouse Drawing

Hey Dela. Here is one inhouse drawing. I had some trouble with it...do you want us to still be working in the 3/4 top-down view (like for a game level?) or do you want a p.o.v.? Let me know how this one measures up. Thanks so much. --Lauren

Interior stuff & speedpaints (Ariel)

hey Dela,

I've been working on choosing the furniture/objects that'll go inside my room so I've sketched the chosen things from photos. I did another sketch of the interior and I'll end up doing something similar to this one but from a different angle so I can show more of the room. The 3 speedpaints are posted.

Kelly's Speed Paintings (week 2)

Hey Dela! I just went ahead and did these so that I could focus the rest of the week purely on the Interior of the headquarters project. Any feedback would be great. Also did you want us to print these out and bring them to class or with these are we just posting them here on the blog? Thanks
Hi Dela

I did some more research on subways during the Victorian Era. They were called Electric Cars and although they were made in the 19th Century they weren't exposed to the public till much later. I figured my Colonel could have the opportunity to own such 'futuristic machinery'.

I would like to do both a visual development piece as well as the entire train. I did some ideations on what kind of route I'm heading in. Let me know if it works and if I'm on the right track.

Here are my ideations from last Saturday.

Here is one of my speed paintings. I'll be approaching them a little slower until my hand feels better.

Thanks Dela!

inhouse_roughs

Hey Dela,

I decided to rough out my environment in maya. Im planning on creating the environment, applying a simple texture, and then paint over it in photoshop as from some of the images you showed in class. I tend to have a problem with perspective and interiors, so i hope that this can help me. I put together a few of the ideas. The swirly staircase, the work stations, a hat stand (which is not complete) and also news paper articles / pictures/ important book pages on the wall. I plan to add some of the characters personality with whats on the workstations, such as voodoos, paint brushes, more books. and maybe the girl would leave her stuff all arround the seating area. I want to know if the room is too crowded? Am I going in the right direction? Is it appealing and does it grab your attention and make you want to see more. If not, i should go back to ideations. Any feedback would be great. Any fellow students have suggestions too would be great, since its break time and i dont get to go to school to talk to you guys.

Kelly's Speed Paintings

Hey Dela here are my speed paints. I actually really enjoyed doing them. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Reeser ~ Speedpaints

Speed Paints

I just wanted to say the speed paints are looking good. A few of you mentioned that the third one was a little more difficult than the others, that was the point. I wanted to give you images that went from easy to hard, and see how you handled then. We will be doing speed paints weekly.

Class

Tomorrow we will be going over the do's and dont's of portfolios. We'll start the class with that and then do the crit so I can make sure we end on time. Both Saturday classes will be getting together since the information will be relevent for everyone, and Nino and I will be going over the portfolio info.

Hey Dela, here are my 3 speedpaints. I had the hardest time on the 3rd one, I think I need to vary my brush use more.

Speed Paints/Characters

Hi Dela, here are my characters with color. I revised my asian character to push more shapes and character. I want to try storyboards for this next phase and currently I'm working on thumbnails. I wanted to paint the characters with as much minimal under drawing as possible but still keep it loose. If you have any feedback please let me know. Thanks!

Dela,
Most of my ideas revolve around the Count which funds the team. Using various
ideas of locations I am pretty consistent in using recent inventions of the time
to create a vacuum machine which can produce containers that will hold spirits.
These are the first five pages and my speed paints. Any advice on my approach
would be great. Thanks.

JP: Interior Ghosthunter HQ Ideations

Dela,

Here are the first four pages for the interiors. I tried to explore different areas but stay within the idea of the ghost engine and Vespasien's interest in scholarship and photography since that is the basis for my story. Any feedback you have would be great!

Thanks

Saro's revised Characters...

Dela,
Here are my revised characters for the ghost hunters based on the comments I got last Saturday. I did some changes on the Thai character. Are these working better now? I am definitely ready to do more changes as I want to make this a portfolio piece, so any help to push it more and make it better, then go for it and be harsh on the critique. Thanks Dela.

First ideas (Ariel)

Hey Dela,

These are the first set of ideas that I've come up with after doing research and taking down notes. I tried to incorporate multiple floors since you said to think vertical, as well as different settings. There's some prop design too because I feel the Machine that's going to hold the ghosts is going to be important and I might have to think about designing the environment around the machine. Tell me if you have any comments and if I'm approaching this correctly, I'm not sure if I should also thumbnail the outside of the HQ to help out invision the interior. Thanks!

Speed Paints

Here's a example of a quick speed paint I did. This was shorter than an hour, but I think it gets the point across.

Speed Paints

In addition to the environment assignment you will also be required to do three speed paints based on the ref provided. Give yourselves one hour for each paint, no more no less.

I suggest working loose to tight. Start by roughly blocking in shapes and colors. It may help to start with your canvass at a small size, forcing you to notice shape and not initially focus on detail. It may also help to work back to front.

Above are the three images, if you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with me.

Jaime's Ghost Hunters: In House

Here are my in house drawings for the ghost hunters that I am developing. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. See you guys in class. Thanks
Hi Dela

These are my in house drawings - I changed my story a wee bit. These are somewhat cleaned up versions of my original drawing.

I'll give you brief character descriptions - please let me know if it reads clearly or not and I'll change whatever doesn't read clearly. Also, let me know if the poses work and the weights right.

Madame Chioke
Haitian Priestess that has the ability to connect with ghosts and communicate with them. She is the leader and director of the team. She can open up gateways and can send the ghosts back to the afterlife using her voodoo powers and abilities. Her snake is her protecter and is always with her. She is dependent on her crew to help find relics and ancient spells. Her Scholar teammate, Colonel Tristan Pascal helps her do this.

Colonel Tristan Pascal
He was a high ranking Colonel for Napoleon's Army but quit because he was haunted by the horrors he saw and began seeing ghosts of all the soldiers and people he killed. He went to Haiti to find peace and embraced Voodoo to help him with this. He met the Priestess here and she helped excorcise some of the demons that have been haunting him. They moved back to Paris together and teamed up together as Ghosthunters. His walking stick is a gift from the Prietess and is used as a weapon and has symbols and spells engraved on it that give it power. He is an older character but is fairly agile and athletic. He has a pet monkey (or rather, a Marmoset) named Napoleon that hangs around him all the time - he adopted him in Haiti. He is also noted scholar and historian.

Corneille
He is a ghost hater. He is the outsider of the group and his main motivation for ghosthunting is selfishness. He wears a mask because he a wanted man by the unrested souls and doesn't want to be known by anyone. He is a vengeful character and every soul he catches makes him more powerful. . Being around the team has helped him repress this - he is present when really difficult or strong ghosts are needed to be taken care of. Because he is pushing his carnal instincts somewhat inside, his attack is always vicious. He wants to do the right thing everytime, but his motivation is fuled by negativity from his past. The team helps him deal with this (although he often relapses). He ran into them at a demon excorcism and has since been on the team. He and the Colonel are always butting heads due to differences. The crows are his two pets and follow him wherever he goes.

Anh Papillion
Is a Chinese "Tea-House girl". She is an undead and attracts the ghosts with her singing. She is always followed and surrounded by moths and fireflies. She is blind and the fireflies help her to see - giving her a blurry vision, but still giving her light. When she summons a ghost, the fireflies move to the ghost surrounding and resting on it, so she can see the ghosts. But this leaves her vulnerable too and she does have a fear of ghosts. The sound of the moths flickering wings guide her - they flitter fast if a ghost is near or when danger is near. She is on the team because of a past relationship with the Colonel. She found him after she died and eventually became a part of the team.

Saro's rough colors

Dela,
Here are some rough colors that I did for my characters. The character on the left is Gaubert, then Chen (Blind, Afraid of ghosts), Constance, and Armond ( Historian, clock smith). Any suggestions on color would be great.

Ghost Hunter colors (Ariel)

hey Dela,

here are my colors for the characters. I tried to keep Bertrand and Etienne wearing similar clothing since they were in the French Foreign Legion together. The pants, coats, and boots they wear are all FFL issue from that era. Jigme is the one who stands out a little more because he is from another country so he's more unique. Noemi's clothing is a little dirty since she's very hands on and is an archeologist/historian. I'll bring this in tommorow and a portfolio for you to look at. Thanks!

Comments

I just when through and treid to get comments on everyones work. If you posted more than once I left comments on your most recent post. I'll be bringing in examples for class and go a little more in depth about some of the comments I left.

We'll be talking criting this week work and discussing the next step. I will also go over portfolios if you want.

The work is looking great, see you all tomorrow.

Nigel: Finished color.

Hey Dela,
Interesting that you pointed me to reference Ryan Wood. I actually was browsing the blogs and found his page, thought it was interesting, but never really had the guts to step out of my comfort zone and go for that style of painting. I spent roughly 12 hours on this piece trying to apply the techniques he uses in his paintings. I really had fun with it. Im going to try to get the rest of them to this quality as soon as I can, since the rest are still flat colors. Thanks for the suggestion. Any way to improve this would be great also, thanks!

JP: Rough Paints

Dela,

These are the rough paints for the characters. I was wondering if you had any particular direction you are looking for with the paints. Would you like to see a more painterly style, a flatter color like I have here, or a combination of pencil and painterly style? I am interested in doing a combination and definately plusing them, but I just wanted to know what you were thinking.

Thanks!

Reeser ~ In House and Lineup

Hey Dela -

Here is the sketch of my last character "Magde." She is wearing the ghost-seeing goggles Bahram and Jang create for her, and carrying her doll (a sock-monkey), and a cane she uses to feel through the world. I thought that the bottom of her coat could be dirty, and jagged from wear, but also from being crudley cut (maybe by her), so it wouldn't drag the ground. I wanted to give her fairly nice shoes, and stockings, to show that Victoria has dressed her nicely, though she still wears the ratty coat over her nice clothes.

Also, I put up a lineup to show size and shape comparisons. Any comments and suggestions would be awesome. Thanks! -Lauren

Jumping the Gun

I been looking over everyones character designs, for the most part they are all moving in a good direction. I really like the thinking and time put into these, one thing that I'm noticing is that some of the poses are off balance or not working.

Keep in mind, work general to specific. It is very easy to get drawn into the detail of a piece at the very begining, but by focusing on the small deatils we loose the overall big picture. It can also cause one to stiffen up their drawing.

From here on out I want everyoney to start by drawing out the base pose for your character with only the volumes and pose. From there look at your base drawing, and using your trainging in animation and figure drawing, see if the weight and balance are working as well as your porportions, volumes, and gesture. When that's working then bring the detail in, your ref, facial emotions, so you are building on a strong base.

The class has amazing potential, I just don't anyone looking at your work to call you on something I know you already know how to do.

Tony Bui: In-House.

Dear Dela and friends:

These are my finished in-house designs. From left to right, the characters are:
1) The inventor
2) The leader
3) The blind guy
4) The scared Asian girl who talks to a crow that turns into a Tengu
5) The Tengu (which is also the scholar)

Sincerely,
Tony Bui

Jens: Revised Characters

Dela,
I revised Count Marceau and colored him. Cecile had problems with her feet and how she stood on the ground plane, and I revised that. I have all the characters in a lineup to see how they relate. I made more passes to try to improve the gravedigger and Chen, but these are the best versions of what I've done. Unless you advise me otherwise I feel like I have taken them as far as I am able to, so I plan to start ideations for environments. Thanks.

JP: Re-Revised In House/Lineup

Dela,

Here is the lineup for the character and the revisions for the two characters Dr. Vespasien and Le Yen. I think I am pretty happy with how things are looking now, but I am sure there is some way to make it better. If you have any crits, I would really appreciate the feedback. As of now, I am going to try and take all of these to a finished state in the drawing and then go to paints for Saturday.

Thanks!

Kelly: InHouse

Hi Dela! This is the scholar/historian/tech guy named Willoughby Fitzwilliam. He is a bit quarcky, yet intelligent; he really knows his stuff about ghosts and spirits. He has always taken an interest in this area since his childhood. When he was a child he had the ability to see and communicate with ghosts, but as he got older he lost some of that innocence that let him be able to completely communicate. So now he uses his education and inventions to help attract and capture spirits.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Jigme color

hey Dela,

I've been playing around with some color for Jigme the last two days and today I did this version. I plan on giving all my characters a dark article of clothing to bring them together, as well as similar shoes. I gave Jigme some traditional Tibetan clothing to make him stand out a little bit since he is the only one from the group who is not from Europe. I figure his vest could be made of leather. Any comments or ideas would be great, I'll do some color for the others as well.

Reeser ~ In House (3)

Hi Dela~

Here are inhouse drawings for three of the characters. I got some good advice on how to improve Victoria, on transmission, and plan to make those changes before the final, but I wanted to let you know where I am in development right now. Any suggestions or comments would be great. Thanks for looking at my work :-) --Lauren

Saro's in-house

Hey Dela,
Here is another in-house drawing that I did. This is Gaubert and he collects objects that used to belong to the ghosts. His clothes are made of material he has gathered from different ghost hunting events and uses them to attract them. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Nigel Ghost Hunters: In House

Hey Dela,

Hope you had a blast at wondercon. Here are my in house drawings for the week.

The story revolves around 3 ghost hunters in 1860's. They have all aged and retired from what they love to do. Because of their Ghost hunting career, they were never able to meet any women, and now only have each other to grow old with. One day, they run across a lost girl in their neighborhood. She is a little chinese girl named mi mi. Not really knowing what to do, they teach her the only thing they know how to do, ghost hunting.

They each want to pass on their skills to the girl, and overwhelm her with home made gadgets and tools. Inspired by the little girl, the 3 old men started to practice ghost hunting again. Though a little more than slow and clumpsy at it, they manage to rediscover their passion in what they do.

I thought I would try to push the story aspect of it into something more realistic and believable, while really having fun with the shapes of the characters. I really like how this can be a very touching and funny story, picking at the different behaviors of how old people nip pick at eachother, get mad, make fun, and care so much for children. It was interesting just to see my grand parents, how they turn into children themsleves as they get older.

Janet: Theatre Ghost Hunters

Hi Dela, thanks for your great comments on my thumbnails. There is some influence from "Prestige" in my work since I saw it before this project. Do you have an email or other preferences for contacting you other than the blog?

I was wondering how you print your color pieces. When I finish color pieces I end up spending hours to match the printout to what I see on my screen. Is there a way to fix this? Below is some new work for the ghost hunters. Have fun at wondercon!

Costume maker for theatre. Was blinded by an accident but uses tentacle like string to capture ghosts and seal them in a mask. I'd like the kimono to look more tattered, upperclass, and a little paris influence detail maybe.
Middle eastern influenced magician.
Sleepless soldier that sees ghosts. My finish will look more like that thumbnails on the bottom.
Orphan boy adopted by the theatre, assists Andreas in his hunting endeavors.

JP: New In-House

Dela,

I really liked your comments for the Felix character. I also noticed that the pose didn't really tell his story, so I tried to get some of that fear that he has into the drawing. I hope this is working better. It feels better to me, but any suggestions you have would really be helpful. Here are the drawings for Vespasien and Yen too. I am going to do more drawings and try to push Yen and Vespasien further.

Thanks!

Bertrand and all four

Hey Dela,

here's my fourth Character, Bertrand, in the in-house stage. I saw him as the big guy, the muscle, of the group. I wanted to pose him in a way that could be paired up with Noemi since they usually work together against visible ghosts. I also put all four of the characters in one page to show their size. I'll do more poses for next week, see you at Wondercon!

Class won't be meeting this week

I had announced last class that we wouldn't be meeting this weekend, I just want to remind everyone in case anyone left early or didn't hear. We will be turning in the assignment next week. Again we will not be meeting this weekend for class.

Jens In House Drawings

Dela,
Here is what I have thus far for Cecile, Gustave and Marceau. Any comments on what they lack would be great. For Count Marceau I want to take another pass before Saturday to liven him up and push his demeaner in a more successful way. Thanks

WIPs

Hey Dela,

Thanks for the feedback. I started on these in-house drawings before you left me the comments. But I will take all your advice and redesign all of them.

For the blind gentleman, I will take out the shotgun cane. As for the story telling element, he has a tattoo under his eyes from a ghost attack. For his cloak, he collects the spirits and it becomes a part of the design.

For the leader, I don't like how I designed his arm. I am going to go for a more home-made look. Also, the staff will have a more unified look with the character.

So this is my third character. The acrobat girl who is scared to walk on the ground and talks to a crow (that becomes a tengu when her lantern is turned on). The tengu is suppose to be a spirit that likes to play tricks on people. I imagined him as only having respect for the little girl and she gets to ride on him because she is so scared to walk on the ground.
